Five Foods that Burn Fat and Boost Metabolism

Looking for a way to burn fat and boost your metabolism? Sure, you could go to your local supplement store and pick up a fat burner with its luminous packaging and promise of washboard abs, but a consistent diet of the right foods is far healthier and much more beneficial.

Here are five foods that burn stubborn fat and boost your metabolism.

1. Apples

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” as the old saying goes. Apples not only contain a great deal of vitamin C but also contain roughly 20% of your daily fibre.

Foods that are high in fibre help with digestion help to maintain healthy blood sugar levels and also help you lose weight. Apples are increasingly being recognised as a super food due to the many health benefits they offer. Apples boost metabolism, thus making weight loss easier.

Why not try some sliced Apple with some Greek yogurt in the morning?

2. Chia Seeds

Now eating these seeds on their own can be a rather bland experience and perhaps make you wonder if they are not better suited in your bird feeder rather than your own mouth. However Chia seeds are very powerful in terms of boosting metabolism and fat loss.

They are high in protein, omega-3 and, like many of the foods on this list, are high in dietary fibre. I usually include chia seeds in smoothies; however you can also add them to yogurt, granola or sprinkle over a salad. I promise you won't even notice them!

3. Dark Chocolate

The healthier alternative to its milkier cousin dark chocolate has a higher percentage of cacao, making it effective in raising metabolism. It’s not only great for your metabolism but it also boosts your physical and emotional health too. Because who doesn’t like chocolate?

Chemicals called flavonoids are responsible for the metabolism boosting qualities in dark chocolate and this can be a great alternative to your regular choice of chocolate/ sweet treat.

4. Green Tea

As a British guy I can honestly say that we love our tea over here. Unfortunately however the vast majority of us neglect the healthier teas and often load it with milk and sugar instead. Green tea however provides us with many health benefits. It’s packed with anti-oxidants that improve our skin and hair, it can help fight depression, and of course, it can boost our metabolism.

Consuming natural green tea stimulates the release of fat from our cells and converts it into energy. Why not try switching to green tea instead of your usual cup of coffee?

5. Spinach

Now I wouldn’t recommend eating spinach out of a can like Popeye, it probably won’t be the freshest and most likely won’t taste very nice. However spinach is a brilliant healthy choice in more ways than one. It can lower blood pressure, help fight many skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, as well as increase the body’s metabolism and burn fat.

Spinach also works in reducing hunger and sweet cravings, thus guaranteeing weight loss. Why not add some spinach to a smoothie or use it as an alternative to the iceberg lettuce in your salad?

These are just some of the foods that can aid in speeding up our metabolism and helping us to lose weight. It's amazing how just a few changes to our diet can have dramatic results in our daily lives.

Start by slowly incorporating some of these foods into your meals and see how you get on!
